(April 12, 2008) – Portal Solutions, one of Microsoft’s Gold Certified Consulting Partners, was selected by the Library of Congress to collaborate with Microsoft to develop the infrastructure and perform the implementation of its massive online collaborative project with the Library of Congress. The web site, http://myLOC.gov, mirrors the visitors’ in-person experience at the Library of Congress’ Thomas Jefferson Building. Originally conceived by the Library several years ago, the site launched on April 12, 2008.
In early 2008, Microsoft reached an agreement with the Library of Congress to provide end-to-end technology for its newly conceived visitor experience.
“When we entered into this agreement with the Library of Congress, we knew Portal Solutions was the right partner for the project. They have the level of expertise with SharePoint necessary to fulfill the needs of this important client on such an ambitious project. The Library of Congress’ website receives millions of hits and new users each month. We knew Portal Solutions would do the job right,” said Microsoft’s Lamont Harrington.
The new web site not only enables visitors to interact with the Library’s vast collection, it also allows them to plan their in-person visit using the web-based Library of Congress Experience. Prior to their arrival in Washington, D.C., visitors to the Experience will be able to access the collection and create their own online collections, so they will be able to focus on what interests them most when they come to Washington, and later this year.create a “Passport to Knowledge,” which they will be able then use to explore and interact with the collections once they arrive.
Contents of the collections will now be accessible over the internet and on-site in a cutting-edge interactive format. Visitors can now enjoy items from Thomas Jefferson’s personal collection, the papers of Benjamin Franklin, the Gutenberg Bible, and many more items as never before.
“We are extremely honored and proud to be part of this project. We know that myLOC.gov will be studied by other libraries and institutions throughout the world, and will be a model for how visitors might now experience the world’s most impressive collections online. The complexity of the project made it challenging, but the exceptional support and cooperation we received from the Library of Congress and Microsoft made this a truly memorable and rewarding experience. I am also very proud how our Chief Architect Valery Orekhov and his team were able to resolve the multiple technical challenges and deliver a great product on time” said Daniel Cohen-Dumani, Portal Solutions’ CEO.
Mr. Cohen-Dumani joined several members of Congress at an event where the Library of Congress previewed the Library of Congress Experience on April 9th.
