The Library of Congress (LOC) had decided to embark on an ambitious project to develop and deliver a rich, state-of-the-art, interactive user experience to new visitors.

They wanted these new visitors to be able to access the treasures of our Library of Congress both onsite and offsite. When the LOC approached Microsoft for guidance with this initiative, Microsoft recommended that they engage Portal Solutions to lead the project and provide the client solution. Portal Solutions architected and developed a large, public-facing website based on SharePoint Server 2007 and MOSS v3.

This highly scalable system included full content management for the “New Visitor Experience”, and was integrated with the LOC’s interactive Kiosks. It was 508-compliant for accessibility, and security features included dual authentication with Windows Live ID and/or self registered users.

Working closely with the LOC’s creative branding firm, Portal Solutions delivered the client solution on time and within budget. The result was that the Library of Congress was able to launch their highly touted New Visitor Experience successfully.
