As part of Portal Solutions’ ongoing thought leadership in the SharePoint space we co-sponsored an AIIM Industry Watch Report titled, “The SharePoint Puzzle – Adding the Missing Pieces.” Some of the key results are summarized below along with a link to download the full report.
User Adoption
The study found that only half (51%) of organizations have achieved adoption rates of 75% or more (users using SharePoint at least once per week). With this low usage, it is clear that SharePoint is not being used to its potential.
SharePoint Budget Priorities
Most organizations are planning to increase or maintain the level of SharePoint spend on internal development, integration with other repositories, training, and third-party add-ons, over the next 12 months.
SharePoint and ECM
Forty-four percent (44%) of respondents are using other Enterprise Content Management and Document Management systems alongside SharePoint.
Portal Research Note: The survey results are consistent with what we have been seeing with clients for years and organizations have been working hard to improve their expertise, strategy and user adoption. The real issue is that it’s an ongoing challenge, because expertise changes from version to version and based on how the organizations use and intend to use the platform. We have also found that effective planning throughout the deployment lifecycle is one of the keys to a successful roll-out. This includes a change management and communication strategy to engage users and drive adoption.
